Denne barrierer eksisterer når folk ikke rigtig er villige til at hjælpe andre, i andre dele af organisationen eller dele deres viden på tværs. For nogle kan det handle om at de ganske enkelt ikke vil, og bevidst holder deres viden for sig selv. Men for andre kan det være at de måske gerne vil dele deres viden med andre, men bare ikke oplever det vigtigt nok til at de prioriterer den eksterne videndeling i en travl hverdag. Hvis VidenErMagtBarrieren  eksisterer i din enhed kan det bl.a. skyldes

  • - Intern konkurrence: Der konkurreres mellem kolleger og/eller enheder, og man holder derfor viden for selv for at klare sig bedre i konkurrencen med andre dele af organisationen
  • - Begrænsende incitamentstrukturer: Man belønnes kun for opnåelse af egne mål (ikke de organisatoriske) og har derfor mere fokus på egne interesserer, ofte på bekostning af helheden
  • - Den magtfulde viden: Opfattelsen af at hvis jeg deler min viden med andre, så bliver jeg selv mindre indflydelsesrig og vigtig, og kan måske ligefrem risikere at miste min nuværende magt og position og blive overflødig
